Can I collect personal information for the people subscribing to my list?
Yes, if your subscribers include their name in the body of their opt-in text, their name will be associated with their number and stored in the admin.
Can I manually add someone to my list?
No, users must subscribe by opting in via text message.
Can I text anyone's number I have?
No, it is illegal to add someone’s phone number to a list for which they did not sign up. Text messaging is highly regulated by the Mobile Marketing Association, and like email marketing, a user must subscribe and opt in to receive messages from you. No one likes getting spam, especially not on their phones! This protects users and keeps them loving you.
Can I use Textify if I am not a church, religious organization, or nonprofit?
Absolutely. While Textify includes features critical for churches and nonprofits, such as mobile giving, the service is designed for any organization or business in any industry. It's the simplest, easiest to use text marketing system, no matter your market.

Does Textify support MMS messages?
No. Currently Textify does not support MMS messages.
Does Textify work outside of the United States?
At this time, Textify is only available in the U.S.
How does someone join my list?
A user joins your list simply by texting “join [yourkeyword]” to 34444. If you have groups set up, they must text the name of your group to be added to that specific list (i.e ‘join [yourkeyword] [groupname]’).
How is this different from sending a mass text through my phone?
Working with a text service provides ease-of-use, privacy and protection compared with texting from a phone. All numbers are stored privately in your system, making it so other members copied on the text message cannot see fellow recipients’ numbers, unlike group texts on a phone. Textify lets you set up multiple users with permission to text to any or all lists. It also gives administrator control of messaging being sent out from the organization. Account administrators can read all texts and who sent them, creating accountability for staff.
What is text marketing?
Text marketing is simply a form of a communicating with an audience using the medium they use the most - text messaging. A text service like Textify allows you to build a subscriber database and send messages from your phone or admin panel.
Who is text marketing for?
Text marketing works for nearly anyone with an audience. Churches, nonprofits, colleges, sports teams, gyms, banks, airlines, musicians, authors -- if you need to communicate with your supporters wherever they are at any time, text marketing is for you.
Why should I use text marketing?
95 percent of text messages are read within three minutes of receipt. Compare that with the average email open rate of less than 20 percent, and it’s obvious that text messaging is the new way of the world. If you want to reach today’s modern, mobile audience, you must reach them where they are.
Will using Textify increase my monthly cell phone bill?
No, the messages will be charged from your Textify credits and will not be considering texts via your cell phone (though you can send messages through Textify from your phone). All of our packages include credits, or messages, that are used for responses to your subscribers. You can buy more credits as you need them. You will not see any additional data usage charges on your personal cell phone bill.

Can I buy more credits if I run out?
You sure can. Click on the Credits button in the top-right corner of your Textify Mobile dashboard to see options for purchasing additional credits.
Do credits rollover monthly?
Yes, they do. If you don’t use all your credits, they will be transferred to the next month.
How much does Textify cost?

What is a credit?
A credit is a single outbound SMS message to a single contact. For example, if you had a list with 200 people on it and you sent a short message (160 characters or less) to that list, you would use 200 credits.
Some processes and features of Textify include automated outbound messages that require credits:
- The 'join' opt-in process requires at least 1 credit per contact opt-in because a confirmation text is sent
- Giving requires at least 2 credits per transaction for confirmation texts and receipts.
Essentially, any time a text is sent, it costs a credit - kind of like a stamp on a piece of mail. We recommend choosing the monthly plan that gives you the amount of credits you anticipate using on a monthly basis. You can always turn on the "auto fill" option to automatically purchase more credits for large messages or giving/purchasing pushes.
One thing to note: outbound messages are not limited to 160 characters even though they are sent via SMS messaging. If the message is longer than 160 characters, it will require multiple credits per recipient (calculated in multiples of 160). For example, if you send a message that is 200 characters long to a group with 100 people in it, it would require 200 credits. (2 credits per message X 100 recipients = 200 credits.)
Can I receive incoming messages?
Yes, you can receive incoming messages when someone texts to your keyword. In your admin panel, choose Keyword → Edit → and select the option to have incoming messages emailed to you.
Incoming message length must be 160 characters or less.
Can I schedule messages?
Yes, you can send instantly or set up a message to schedule whenever you like.
Can I send to multiple groups at once?
Yes, it couldn’t be easier. On your send screen, you’ll have a list of groups with checkboxes, making it easy to select the ones you want to send to.
Can multiple people at my organization send texts?
Yes, Textify lets you set up user accounts for members of your organization. You can also assign user permissions, giving different people the ability to only text to certain lists.
Does Textify support subgroups?
No, we are unable to support subgroups. You can have as many groups as you want within a keyword but cannot create groups within those groups. If you organization has many divisions, we recommend purchasing multiple keywords and creating groups within those. While it is more cost effective to use groups for all your different lists, they can become difficult to manage and confusing for users when there are too many to which they might want to subscribe. Our suggested format for subgroups is to purchase multiple keywords and create groups within them.
What is a short code?
A short code is a shortcut for a telephone number, which companies use for mobile marketing. Short codes are easier to remember and easier to type than using the entire telephone number.
Textify's short code is 34444. All incoming and outgoing messages using the Textify service are sent and delivered from this number. Your keyword distingishes your account, lists, and messages from others using the Textify short code.
What is the difference between a group and a keyword?
A keyword is like your website URL -- it distinguishes you from everyone else using Textify. Groups are separate categories, or well, groups, that let you divide your contacts into different lists for you to send targeted messages.

Are gifts given through Textify tax deductible?
The rules for tax deductible donations are the same for gifts given through Textify as for gifts given through cash, check, or online giving. If your organization is a 501(c)3 and gifts to you are typically tax deductible, then they will also be tax deductible when given through Textify. This is why we use Stripe for a payment processor; no funds are passed directly through Textify, which keeps donations within tax regulations.
If you are a for-profit business, funds transferred through Textify are not tax deductible, just like any other transaction.
Are text donations processed through the cell phone carriers?
No, all text donations given through Textify are processed by Stripe, our partner payment processor. Unlike donations made through carriers, which require minimum gifts, transaction fees, and can take months to process, donations made through Textify are deposited directly to your organization within days of the donation being made.
Can Textify replace my online giving platform?
Textify is designed to supplement, not replace online giving. It offers another giving option to your supporters for those who don’t carry checks or prefer not to give online. In fact, we have found that mobile giving causes people who don’t typically give to start giving; it often opens up a new revenue source in addition to online giving.
Does Textify charge a transaction fee?
Textify does not charge any transaction fees, but our partner payment processor, Stripe, charges 2.9% + $.30. We use Stripe because they process the payment directly, meaning no funds pass through Textify, which keeps everything tax deductible. Stripe is very easy to set up and funds are deposited in your account within a week of the donation. The cost to use Textify's service is just $25/month, with no additional percentage/fees taken.
Does Textify support recurring giving?
Yes, Textify supports one-time, weekly and monthly donations. Your donors have access to their receipts and recurring donations through our user portal at http://txtfy.us/h.
How does a user give via text?
It couldn’t be easier. They simply text “give [keyword] [amount]” to 34444 to make a donation in any amount. If you have giving funds set up, they will text "give [keyword] [fundname] [amount]" to give to a specific fund.
How does text giving work? How do I receive funds?
Text giving allows a supporter to give via their phone by sending a text to specified keyword. Once they set up their credit card in our system, they can give with just a simple text, each time they want to give. The funds are processed through a payment processor and sent directly to the nonprofit, meaning they stay fully tax deductible.
Text giving is simple and easy for both the user and the organization:
- Organizations sign up for Text Giving and are prompted to set up a free Stripe (credit card processor) account, which allows them to process mobile donations. They connect their current bank account with their Stripe account, so funds are deposited directly to their bank.
- Users donate by texting the word "give", the organization's keyword, and the amount they would like to give to 34444. The first time a user gives through Textify, they will be sent to a page to enter their credit card information. Their credit card is then stored, and all future donations can be given simply by texting an amount to the keyword.
- The organization receives funds deposited directly to their bank account within days of a donation being made.
How is this different than disaster relief campaigns?
Disaster relief campaigns are facilitated through phone carriers and often take months to arrive at the destination organization (the donation isn’t processed until it appears on the donor’s cell phone bill). The transaction fees can also be up to nearly half the donor’s gift. With Textify, payments are processed directly through the organization’s payment processor. The funds come out of a user’s account within minutes and the nonprofit receives them in a matter of days.
Is text giving just for donations?
No, it can be used for anyone wanting to transfer funds via text. While both nonprofits and businesses use it for fundraising and cause marketing campaigns, businesses, authors, musicians and others selling products or services can use it to accept payment. It’s especially effective at events, where someone can make a purchase from their phone, rather than waiting in line.
Is there a minimum amount that must be given for a text gift?
No, users can give any amount by texting the amount they wish to give to your keyword and short code.
Where does the money given via text gifts go?
Money donated via Textify is deposited straight to your organization's bank account via Stripe, our partner credit card processor. Textify never receives any funds, and the donations are not processed through cell phone carriers. This means that you receive donations quickly and directly, and all funds remain tax deductible.
