Text Messaging Keeps The Neighborhood Connected
Do you remember the nosy neighbor, Gladys Kravitz, in the old TV sitcom, Bewitched?
Gladys lived across the street from the Stephens family and spent much of her time peeking at their home through her curtains. She was convinced that something was going on with Samantha Stephens. She was right, of course (since Samantha was a witch), but she could never prove it in order to convince her husband or the other neighbors.
If only Gladys had had text messaging! A quick text to another neighbor and maybe someone else could have caught Samantha cleaning the dishes with a wave of her hand or rearranging the furniture with the twitch of her nose.
That was the sixties, of course, and we were all still talking on telephones connected to a cord in the wall. Things have come a long way in 50 years, and today we’re discovering just how helpful and versatile text messaging can be in our everyday lives—especially when it comes to our neighborhoods.
We’re in the middle of autumn, which means lots of outdoor activities that bring neighbors and families together. Trick-or-treating is just a little more than a week away when fairies, princesses, pumpkins, and ninjas will roam the streets looking for candy.
Block parties, tailgating, potlucks, and fall festivals all require coordination and communication. What’s the best way to make sure everyone’s notified and updated?
Text messaging is perfect for keeping everyone on the same page (and to catch that occasional wayward “witch” in the middle of her shenanigans!). Here are some ways that Textify Mobile could be helpful this time of year in your neighborhood:
- Home Owners’ and Neighborhood Associations – use text messaging to plan holiday-themed activities (Trick-or-Treating, Christmas caroling, block parties), announce meetings, dues reminders, help find lost pets, maintenance issues, etc.
- Neighborhood Watch – use text messaging to send alerts to homeowners when suspicious activity is noticed; notify neighbors quickly of an emergency situation
- Parents’ Groups – use text messaging to send meeting reminders, organize events, coordinate carpooling
Wouldn’t it be great to be able to communicate with all of your neighbors with a text message? We’re pretty sure Gladys Kravitz would think so, and we think you will, too.
